I thought u had YouTube that was one of the reasons I got this but no you. Tube and to sir the web the RCA brand has all that and it’s cheaper then roku Im going to and return it and get the RCA one and it’s 48 dollars

YOUTUBE IS ON ROKU. I HAVE IT! I DONT’ REMEMBER EXACTLY WHERE IT IS BUT YOU SHOULD LOOK AGAIN. AS FAR AS THE RCA, I HAVE CONSIDERED TRYING IT IN ANOTHER ROOM BUT DECIDED IF I WAS GOING TO USE A STREAMING BOX, IT IS PROBABLY WISE TO USE THE ONE THAT HAS THE BEST REPUTATION AND HAD BEEN AROUND LONGER. LOTS OF COMPANYS ARE ATTEMPTING THEIR VERSION BUT WITH NO SO GREAT REVIEWS, DO YOU HOMEWORK BEFORE TRYING TO SAVE SOME MONEY, GOOD LUCK TO YA

Lies…… Youtube DOES NOT work on Roku, even those that already had it from the beginning. Those have now been disabled.

        • Going Green

Rate Rix allows you to see everything on You Tube. I watch it all the time

On roku .com go to your account and click on private channels, and there you will find the code to add youtube to your set—I’ve had it for years now!

Roku users who are looking to use the ‘unofficial’ Youtube channel have had access blocked by Google, until a deal can be negotiated with the set-top box company.

Roku not getting any Youtube lovin
Roku has never had an official Youtube channel for streaming video onto tv, but there was an unofficial channel set up as a workaround.Viewers had to add the channel by entering a code into the device.

Although Roku were aware of it’s existence, it was allowed to carry on streaming until Youtube found out about it. Now the video giant has put the kaboosh on the channel.

Now viewers are met with this message when looking to Youtube:-

“At the request of YouTube, this private channel is no longer available on Roku. To remove the channel, please go to “My Channels” in the Channel Store.”

So why the problem over a video streaming service that is available on every device known to man? It seems that Roku could not meet Google’s specs for adding the channel. The unofficial channel used MP4 streaming and it seems that some advertising was not being shown. Seems this is againt Google terms, hence the takedown.

But behind the scenes Roku are said to be negotiating to get Youtube streaming back. It does appear that if you already have the channel set-up it will continue to work. But new users are now blocked.

You Tube works just fine on my Roku.

          • Jeff

This cannot be an accurate statement. Even people that had loaded the app from the onset have been disabled. Roku, if you have any integrity whatsoever can you please release a statement on this. I’m tired of reading articles that include verbage such as “But behind the scenes Roku are said to be negotiating to get Youtube streaming back”. Can you please let your customers know what’s going on?

      • Nicholas Adkisson

        i cant find it

      • Jeff

        This doesn’t work any longer….

I see Boxee has a Live TV dongle coming out in January 2012 ($49). It connects via USB to the back of the Boxee box, the other end has a connection for adding an antennae to receive clearQam/ATSC signals (or you can connect your cable line to it).

Does Roku have plans for a similar device? Most of us Roku owners want to cut the cord, but it is a difficult task when we know we’ll lose live news, live sports, and all the primetime shows on the major free networks.

The Boxee seems to have the same selection as Roku, but the price for the box is much steeper at $180. And then you have to purchase the Live TV dongle, too, at $49. That’s nearly 3x the cost of Roku, but you do get LIVE television. Help us Roku!

Boxee does NOT offer the same as roku. There is no Amazon instant, no playon support either, and no Hulu or Hulu+ on Boxee. I bought both a year ago. I ran an antenna for live tv, and cut the cable. Used roku first for a year on my only tv. Added a second tv a month ago and used the boxee for the it. After emails to support – I have come to realize that Boxee is second rate. Or at least it doesn’t provide the streaming services that I prefer.

Yes, there are some channels that Roku offers, but Boxee doesn’t. But Boxee also has YouTube, whereas Roku doesn’t support it. Boxee also has VUDU.

I have an HD projector, so I need an HD tuner. Thus, my question about Roku’s plans to add a live tv dongle. It looks like I may have to buy the Boxee and run both boxes.

How can you have a new years post and not have any option to stream the ball drop? that’s silly
