Minor update for original Roku players released

Today, we released a minor update for original Roku players. Roku software version 3.1 build 1017 includes the following fixes:

  • Fixed issues that can cause freezes and crashes in Hulu Plus
  • Improved SSDP device discover support used by mobile applications, including Roku’s iPhone app and Android app, to find and connect to Roku players on home networks
  • Other minor bug fixes

The Roku software update will be pushed automatically to all connected original Roku players over the next 48 hours. To get it now, select Settings > Player info > Check for update from your Roku player.

    I wish you could add 5 memories for multiple SSIDs for the roku boxes. It is very annoying to have to remember to bring the roku ir remote so that I can set it up on my friends wifi routers. I take my roku box to my friends vacation home in NH and I also dog sit at a friends house on weekends sometimes and bring my roku box. My ipod touch remembers every wifi SSID. It is really nice that I do not have to load that up every time I go to a friends house. It just works. Thank you.

    still no netflix subtitles for original roku owners….boo!

      I have given up hopes. It’s evident by now that Roku will never provide subtitles for Netflix on first generation Roku devices. They want you to buy another Roku player. I expected better from them.

        they can’t put it on the original units for they weren’t designed to handle captioning. remember when you buy any electronic product or anything specs can change at any time and the manufacturer doesn’t have to upgrade the previous versions of their product.

          That’s not true. Hulu Plus provides subtitles on the first generation Roku player.

    Happy to see a fix for the Hulu Plus freezing on our XD and XDS Rokus! Going to try it out now.

      I really hope this fixes the Hulu+ issues, its only been 6+ months of it locking up and resetting the box..

    Great. Any idea why my Roku 2 XD has been freezing so badly the last few days? It already got the 4/7 software a while ago.

    is there a reason why he roku2 plays Netflix movies in bad quality and then goes to good quality as time goes? Will the update fix this? Just got the roku2 yesterday and it’s driving me crazy. The roku 1 works perfectly fine though and does not do this.

    Are you going to fix Hulu+ channel so that smartphone remotes can use the keyboard (the keyboard of the phone or tablet, that is)? I regularly hear complaints for “keyboard not working”.

    Thanks for keeping us XDS users updated. I promote rokus to everyone interested in streaming video. Cable/Satellite tv is not even an option for my family anymore. Thanks for everything!

    I was just about to say “wow” finally get to watch a movie. The screen is currently frozen and doesn’t appear to be going to move. Not any better after the update. Hulu Plus still isn’t worth paying for to see frozen screens!! 5/29/12

    How do we report a frozen movie? I have a couple that has been frozen for months and one…one of the Pod people sci-fi movies…1/2 way through became a different movie and so we need a simple way to tell Netflix one of their movies are messed up.

    The update didn’t fix my original Roku.
    Watched a TV show on Hulu+ and it froze up and became pixelated.
    Not happy about that! Can’t believe it’s still an issue after so long.

    Had to finish watching on the iPad.

    Just went to update and see that the current build is 3.1 1027 – don’t see references to this build but the software update wants to replace that with 1017. Which is newer?

    Hopefully this isn’t the last update. WIth the 4.8 updates for 2nd generation Rokus, I’ve notice some of my apps no longer work with the message “4.8 or higher”. The app worked before. :(

    Like another poster, I also have a first generation Roku, and for the past two weeks, I cannot stream Netflix properly, via wireless, with constant “unable to connect to the internet” messages (other roku channels work just fine) . When I can finally select a movie, it will begin to download, the bar goes a quarter of the way, and reverts back to the play screen. When it does download, the stream will play for only a few minutes and revert right back to the play screen. I did the whole gamet, doing a total reset on everything (including cable and wireless modem) with no results. So I decided to do a test, I accessed netflix through my laptop and it steams just fine from the netflix website so it is not the wireless router. Then, I connected my internet cable from the cable modem directly into the roku box and reconfirgured it to “wired”. The Roku accepted it immediately and I went to Netflix and it does the same thing! I’m assuming that my box is fried and will purchase another upgraded model, and if it does the same thing, it will go right back for a refund!

    I have Version 3.1 build 1027 and the damn thing reboots once a night when I try to watch Colbert Report. Any idea on if a fix is going to come out?

    its been a year since roku xds got a update 3.1.it will be great to get a whole new update for original roku players. 1. loading 2. freeze 3. channel bugs fix 3. support some latest channels 4. Netflix major update for streaming skipping scroll 5. Hulu plus freeze menu subtitles short and other 5. new fresh looks to all channels
