New Releases and Recommendations for August 24

Amazon Instant Video New Releases:

  • Hunger Games- In the powerful film adaptation of the best-selling book, 16-year-old Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) volunteers to take her younger sister’s place in the Hunger Games. (2012)
  • The Lorax- From the creators of Despicable Me, this charming adaptation of the classic Dr. Seuss tale is a must for family movie night. (2012)
  • Copper Season 1- This gripping drama follows a rugged Irish immigrant cop as he seeks justice for the powerless in the notorious immigrant neighborhood of Five Points. (2012)

Amazon Prime Instant Video New Releases:

  • Parks and Recreation Seasons 1-4- Leslie Knope takes on defensive bureaucrats, cranky neighbors and single-issue fanatics with Ron Swanson (reluctantly) by her side (2011)
  • Friday Night Lights Seasons 1-5- NBC’s compelling sports drama focuses on the small town of Dillon, Texas, where football is everything. (2011)
  • Battlestar Galactica Seasons 1-4-  The sole human survivors of a devastating nuclear attack are forced to flee under the protection of their one remaining warship, the Battlestar Galactica. (2008)

Netflix New Releases:

  • Super 8- A suspenseful supernatural tale about six kids who witness something incredible while shooting a movie with their Super 8 camera. (2011)
  • Jiro Dreams of Sushi- This delectable documentary profiles sushi chef Jiro Ono, an 85-year-old master whose 10-seat, $300-a-plate restaurant is legendary among Tokyo foodies. (2011)
  • The Motorcycle Diaries- Gael Garcia Bernal rides from Argentina to Chile, Peru, Colombia and Venezuela in this beautifully shot biopic based on the memoirs of a young Che Guevara (2004)

Hulu Plus New Releases:

  • Grimm: The Kiss- As Nick and his mother continue to battle the Mauvais Dentes, Monroe and Rosalee fight against the clock to save Juliette. (2012)
  • Rookie Blue: The Rules- Andy and Nick investigate when a drug lord threatens a priest’s life. (2012)
  • Saving Hope: A New Beginning- Dana takes Joel on a head-clearing road trip, while Charlie explores whether an emotional block is keeping him comatose. (2012)

Crackle New Releases:

  • Quarantine- A reporter and her cameraman are trapped in downtown Los Angeles when a mysterious, deadly, and highly contagious strain of rabies breaks out. (2008)
  • Missionary Man- Dolph Lundgren writes, directs, and stars as a mysterious scripture-slinging vigilante in this modern-day western. (2008)
  • Seinfeld- This month’s hilarious featured episodes of the classic sitcom cover everything from parking to murder. (1998)

Fandor New Releases:

  • Double Dare- Live vicariously through wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am Hollywood stunt women Jeannie Epper (Foxy Brown, Wonder Woman) and Zoe Bell (Xena: Warrior Princess, Kill Bill, Grindhouse) in this action-packed documentary (2004)
  • Street of Crocodiles- With no strings to hold him down, a newly freed puppet wanders a dark and unforgiving world in this nightmarish stop-motion animated short (1986)
  • The Saphead- Buster Keaton is Bertie Van Alstyne, the spoiled scion of a Wall Street financier, in this slapstick comedy set in post WWI New York society (1920)
