Today, we are excited to share that the Roku mobile app, available on both Android and iOS, has surpassed one million downloads!

Our users have provided overwhelmingly positive feedback on the app. It currently maintains a 4.6 star rating (out of 5.0) on Google Play and a 4.5 star rating on Apple’s App Store.

What has made the app so popular with Roku users?

  • It functions as a full remote control, including an instant replay button and a keyboard for use in search.
  • You can browse the Roku Channel Store and add and remove channels from your Roku account.
  • You can instantly launch your favorite installed channels with handy quick launch buttons.
  • You can play your mobile music and photos right on your TV with the tap of a finger (on Roku 2, Roku LT and new Roku HD players).
  • It’s free!

We plan to make the Roku mobile app a more integral part of the Roku platform experience in 2013. If you haven’t tried it, download the app free from Google Play, Apple’s App Store or the Amazon Appstore and let us know what you think!

Will there ever be a way to use one Roku app for multiple Roku boxes? My roommate owns the one in the living room, while I have one installed in the bedroom. To use the iPad app on one of the boxes, I pair it up. If I want to use the iPad app on another box, I have to remove the one box I have paired, in order to register the new device. This isn’t very practical.

    • @gindawn: The mobile app actually allows you to name and switch between multiple Roku players on the same network. Here’s how that works:

I still have to sign out of the first one to get into the second one, which makes me lose the login details of the first one. When I switch back to the first one, I must ask my roommate to log me in so that I can use it. This isn’t a terribly important problem, just impractical. 🙂 Thank you for the quick response, you guys are awesome.

The mobile app supports multiple Roku players tied to a single account. You can connect to and quick switch between multiple players. However, if each Roku player is tied to a separate Roku account, you do have to sign out and sign back in. There is no support for remembering multiple Roku accounts.

Install one of the other remote apps for Roku, one not written by Roku Inc – that will solve your problem.

How do you change the channels on the Quick Launch buttons?

    • Tom_Markworth

The quick launch buttons being displayed should be your list of installed channels for your Roku player.

  • what about wm7

I would like to see a Windows Phone version of this!

    2 Feature Requests:
1> Play video from phone (in addition to photos & music).
2> Allow the rotation of photos.

    • Tom_Markworth

      Thanks for the requests.

  • It doesn’t play music purchased from Play Music even if the music is marked “Keep On Device”.

Please add the Roku app to the Norwegian iTunes App Store. It would also be nice if would start selling your boxes in Norway. Netflix, Spotify, HBO Nordic and others all offer their services in Norway, but they all refuse to support Roku in Norway as long as the box is not officially sold here. They refuse to list their apps in Rest of The World Roku Channel Store. Please consider sellng Roku in Scandinavia.

  • Please do a Windows Phone 8 version (and maybe WP 7.8 version also) of this app! Windows Phone is the fastest growing mobile phone platform. Please include us in this revolution!

  • andy

    I would also like a wp8 app.
